The 2012 Shelby GT500 is powered by a 5.4L 4V supercharged aluminum-block V8 engine, first introduced in 2011, that is 102 pounds lighter than the previous cast-iron engine, resulting in improvements in horsepower (550hp), torque (510 lb-ft) and gas mileage (15 MPG city/23 MPG highway). The 2012 Shelby GT500 also features an SVT-tuned suspension with unique shocks and springs, along with the same lowered stance, Electric Power Assist Steering and AdvanceTrac stability control system as the 2011 model for improved road feel, more precise steering and less effort required for low-speed parking maneuvers. The Tremec 6-speed manual transmission delivers sporty, smooth-shifting performance, with responsive low-end torque and greater fuel economy in the high overdrive gear. It features an aggressive first gear that delivers powerful launch feel. This transmission has short shifter throws, providing positive internal shift stops and full gear synchronization. The 2012 Shelby GT500 offers a number of exclusive features worthy of the Shelby name. The distinctive GT500 badging, GT 500 side rocker stripes, Le Mans racing stripes and unique rear spoiler are on full display. The 19" x 9.5" painted forged aluminum wheels are paired with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires. Other exterior features include HID headlamps with autolamp and a power dome hood with heat extractor. Inside, the Shelby GT500 is nicely appointed, featuring leather-trimmed front sport bucket seats with racing stripes and Alcantara suede trim, as well as a leather-wrapped steering wheel with Alcantara suede trim and a message center with compass. The 500-watt Shaker 500 audio system includes an AM/FM stereo, single-disc CD/MP3 player and eight speakers.
